Sketchbook: Winter Shore

Over the past few weeks I’ve been returning to the same stretch of shoreline, trying to capture how it changes with the weather.

The winter light has a way of flattening everything – colours drain out, and what’s left is shape and movement. It’s been useful to strip things back like this.

Most of these sketches were done quickly, often with cold hands and limited time before the tide came in. I’ve been focusing on repetition rather than precision.

There’s a particular structure – an old breakwater – that keeps appearing. I’m not entirely sure why yet, but it feels like it belongs to something larger.

I’ll keep returning to this location over the next few weeks and see where it leads.
